Wix to Shopify redirects:
map pages, products and posts.

Wix and Shopify put products, blog posts and pages under different prefixes, so old links break at launch unless you redirect them. Build the map from your real Wix URLs, then check it free before you import it into Shopify.

1. How the URLs change

Wix’s default product URLs use /product-page/ and blog posts use /post/. Wix lets you change both prefixes in SEO Settings, so check what your site uses before you build the map.

Product
/product-page/linen-apron becomes /products/linen-apron
Blog post
/post/linen-care becomes /blogs/news/linen-care
Page
/about becomes /pages/about
Address with #!
/#!about/c3k9 cannot be redirected server-side

Copy each destination from the handle Shopify shows for that product, page or article. A Shopify article address includes its blog’s handle, such as /blogs/news/.

2. List the URLs your old site really has

  • Your sitemap. Add /sitemap.xml to your Wix domain to see the sitemap index, which lists your site’s individual sitemaps (Wix help).
  • Your existing Wix redirects. When you change a page URL, Wix creates a 301 redirect automatically, except for blog posts. Those, and any you added in the URL Redirect Manager, stop running once your domain points to Shopify. Put them in the map, pointed at the final Shopify URL.
  • Pages people actually arrive on. Add landing pages from your analytics or Search Console, including old URLs that are no longer in the sitemap.

Write one row per old URL, using Shopify’s import headers: Redirect from,Redirect to.

3. Find the problems in this map

This is a fictional learning file for a small homeware store. Replace the paths with your own before any store use. The audit reads the file in your browser and never visits the URLs in it.

Before · seven redirect rows

Scroll sideways in the CSV to read long lines.

Redirect from,Redirect to
/product-page/linen-apron,/products/linen-apron
/product-page/canvas-tote,https://your-store.myshopify.com/products/canvas-tote
/post/linen-care,/blogs/news/linen-care
/about-us,/about
/about,/pages/about
/#!linen-apron/c1x2y,/products/linen-apron
/#!about/c3k9,/pages/about

7 rows: 2 errors · 2 need review · 3 clear

The audit counts the header as row 1. Here is what needs attention:

Row 3 · a destination on the .myshopify.com address
The tote points to the store’s myshopify.com address, so visitors would leave your own domain. Shopify says to use a relative URL for redirects within your primary domain. Use /products/canvas-tote.
Row 5 · a chain from an old Wix redirect
Wix already redirected /about-us to /about, and row 6 sends /about on to Shopify. Point both straight at /pages/about.
Rows 7 and 8 · addresses with #!
Everything after # is a fragment, and browsers don’t send fragments to the server. Shopify sees both addresses as a request for the homepage, so the audit reports two destinations for the same URL. No server-side redirect can tell them apart, and Wix’s own redirect manager doesn’t accept # in a source link either. Remove these rows.

Rows 2, 4 and 6 are structurally clear. That does not prove the Shopify destinations exist yet.

4. Correct the map and check it again

The corrected file uses a relative destination for the tote, sends both about-page URLs straight to Shopify and drops the #! rows.

After · five redirect rows

Scroll sideways in the CSV to read long lines.

Redirect from,Redirect to
/product-page/linen-apron,/products/linen-apron
/product-page/canvas-tote,/products/canvas-tote
/post/linen-care,/blogs/news/linen-care
/about-us,/pages/about
/about,/pages/about

5 rows: 0 errors · 0 need review · 5 clear

“Clear” describes the map’s structure only. These redirects have not been installed or tested on a store.

5. Import into Shopify, then test live

  • Import the corrected two-column map. In Shopify, go to Content → Menus → URL redirects → Import. Our downloadable findings report is not a Shopify import file.
  • Only broken URLs redirect. Shopify: “If the URL still loads a valid webpage, then the URL redirect won’t work.”
  • Mind Shopify’s reserved paths. Shopify won’t redirect URLs that begin with /shop, /cart and a few other prefixes. The audit marks those rows for review.
  • Test the old URLs once your domain points to Shopify, starting with the pages that get the most visits.

Details can change, so check Shopify’s current URL redirect instructions before you import.

Check your own map

The free audit checks up to 1,000 rows in your browser. Your CSV is not sent to our servers, and you don’t need an account. It finds loops, chains and conflicting destinations. With Shopify’s Redirect from,Redirect to headers, it also flags the Shopify restrictions above. It cannot install redirects or see your live store.

A bigger catalog, or want proof after launch? The Migration Pass is $39 one-time for one project. For 30 days it audits maps up to 10,000 rows and checks up to 100 old URLs daily against the destinations you expect. Live checks require DNS verification of your domain. They don’t render JavaScript or guarantee rankings.
